Meet Beth
Hi there and welcome to our practice! I'm Beth Fier, Licensed Professional Counselor, Founder and Clinical Director here at SEED. While I have an extensive background in Dialectical Behavior Therapy, my approach is integrative and focuses on the use of Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT) and other evidence and skills based approaches to manage patterns of avoidance and over-striving that are often associated with anxiety, depression, problem perfectionism, and trauma.
This often includes working with self-criticism, painful emotions, and the behaviors that can interfere with our goals, relationships and wellbeing. Just as importantly, we work on accessing positive emotional states and the ability to connect with feelings of contentment, strength, safeness and care.
Background
I have completed certification training as a Mental Health Integrative Medicine Provider (CMHIMP) and as a provider for Stephen Porges' Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP). This protocol involves the use of specially filtered music to strengthen the inner ear muscle. This helps us to improve autonomic regulation and can be particularly useful when there have been experiences of threat or trauma within the context of important relationships.
I’m also an Approved Clinical Supervisor and love helping emerging counselors and new professionals to learn and grow! Some of my other past experience includes teaching as an adjunct faculty member at The College of New Jersey (TCNJ), supervising clinical interns and new professionals, serving on the executive board of the New Jersey Counseling Association (NJCA), and volunteering as past president for the New Jersey Association for Multicultural Counseling (NJAMC).
DBT, CFT and Other Advanced Training includes:

She has trained with CFT’s treatment originator, Dr. Paul Gilbert, and CFT expert clinicians, Dr. Russell Kolts of the Inland Northwest Compassionate Mind Center, and Dr. Dennis Tirch of the Center for Compassion Focused Therapy. She also participated as a member of the advanced CFT consultation team facilitated by CFT Dr. Dennis Tirch for approximately 2 years, and continues her participation in a compassion focused consultation group with other experienced colleagues.
